Backstage at Lanvin tonight, amidst dozens of hairbrushes, blow-dryers, and pins, a mysterious oversize scrapbook was sitting open on a nearby table. “It’s my inspiration for the show,” said hairstylist Julien d’Ys, who had assembled an elaborate series of images—including a blown-up picture of an old Lanvin Arpège perfume bottle, as well as half a dozen of the fashion house’s campaigns and show invitations from years past. But it was two additional photographs—a black-and-white portrait of a young Brigitte Bardot in a pair of woven pigtails, and a 1970s Veruschka wearing a plaited updo—that seemed to have impacted the night’s final beauty look. “It’s very simple,” he said of the single braid he had settled on for the runway.
